In a new video posted on YouTube (see above) entitled „Shred the Love“, the artist Banksy shows how he prepared the shredding mechanism inside a frame that destroyed the artwork „Girl with Balloon“ at a Sotheby’s auction some weeks ago. “In rehearsals it worked every time …”, Banksy states in the video. At the auction, that drew attention worldwide, the artwork was shredded just partially.

Sotheby’s said that the winning bidder decided to buy it anyway. The woman paid $1.4 million.Alex Branczik, Sotheby’s head of contemporary art in Europe said that Banksy didn’t destroy the artwork, but created one. „Following his surprise intervention on the night, we are pleased to confirm the sale of the artist’s newly titled Love Is in the Bin, the first artwork in history to have been created live during an auction.”
