Vienna Startup Another Earth Raises €3.5M to Power AI Earth Observation
The Vienna-based startup Another Earth, founded by Maya Pindeus and Felix Geremus, has completed a funding round of 3.5 million euros. The capital will be invested in expanding the AI-based simulation and synthetic data platform for Earth observation. Wake-Up Capital participated in the round alongside existing investors Rockstart, Inovexus, and Stamco AG. Additional support came from the FFG and AWS.
Technology and Application Areas
Another Earth uses generative AI and 3D modeling to create synthetic satellite imagery and geodatasets. The technology enables organizations to train and test AI models for monitoring environmental changes as well as analyzing land, water, and infrastructure.
The company addresses a central challenge in the field of Earth observation AI: limited access to high-quality training data. Conventional satellite imagery is cost-intensive, particularly in remote regions, and requires extensive manual labeling. By generating synthetic satellite data, Another Earth automatically creates labeled and segmented datasets, making AI model training more efficient while reducing costs.
Management Statements
The greatest hurdle for scaling Earth observation AI is the scarcity and prohibitive costs of high-quality training data. “With this funding and our commitment in key ecosystems from Latin America to Africa, we are generating data where none exists. We are giving organizations the tools to transition from reactive crisis response to proactive, forward-looking intervention,” said Maya Pindeus, CEO and co-founder of Another Earth, regarding the company’s strategic direction. AI can help address growing threats such as land degradation and climate-related disasters, provided access to suitable data exists.
International Expansion
Another Earth is now expanding its international presence. In Sub-Saharan Africa, the company is partnering with GeoTerra Image to monitor the environmental impacts of mining and industrial sites. In Brazil, the company is expanding its Synthetic Data Platform through a partnership with NovaTerra. Application areas include deforestation monitoring, agricultural analysis, and climate risk assessment.
The fresh capital will accelerate the rollout of Another Earth’s Synthetic Data Engine and expand application areas in environmental monitoring and risk simulation. The focus is on Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, where high-resolution synthetic satellite data is to be produced to support biodiversity monitoring, deforestation tracking, and environmental risk assessment in endangered ecosystems.
